SpeedClean Condenser Needle

Bryan Orr shows how to use the SpeedClean condenser needle to clean a coil without removing the top.

The condenser in this video was maintained recently. However, a dog keeps lying against it, so the dog hair has accumulated quickly and reduced the HVAC unit’s performance. The SpeedClean condenser needle allows its user to get into tight spots without requiring them to pull the top and rinse the whole unit from the inside out with a bulky hose or pump sprayer. A clamp containing cleaner attaches to the condenser needle, and it works a bit like IV fluid in the hospital. The condenser needle can work with the SpeedClean CoilJet, but it can also work with normal hose pressure.

This video shows Bryan using the Viper Heavy Duty cleaner from Refrigeration Technologies. Any non-caustic foaming cleaner will be best, but it’s still a good idea to wear eye protection.

Bryan’s process is to shut the unit off safely, rinse the condenser from the inside out, add foam, allow the foam to dwell, and rinse the foam from the inside out with the condenser needle. In this case, we just attach the needle to a hose. The needle fits between the slots at the top of the condenser and can maneuver around fan blades easily. As Bryan demonstrates, it’s best to build foam from the bottom up.

Once the unit has had the foam applied, Bryan allows the foam to dwell for about 5 minutes before rinsing it off.
